Oops, wrong direction. The fast shutter speed has caught the car nice and sharp, I feel though that the white is a bit too bring and needs to be slightly darker. And maybe crop it in tighter so the background is less distracting.
Orange Pop. I like the idea of using the flash to create the frozen action. Ithe part of the balloon on the left is distracting and maybe crop that part out and there is a few things showing up in the back ground.
Playing Fetch, You have stopped the dogs movement well, the shallow depth of field is good as well. Not sure if it has been cropped a lot but feel it has lost some detail.
Post Pop. This is great, the water is just sitting in the air. It works really well, and the detail in little bubbles lit from the flash all work together.
Rough day in the Catlins. There is a lead in line from the left and a curve line on the right from the cliff which lead your eyes to the crashing wave. It is a shame that it is sunny. If a cloud blocked the sun it may have better lighting. The composition works well.
Fastest on the day. The panning of the camera works well at blurring the background and the wheels. The position in the frame is also good. Feel the white is a bit too bright and some detail may have been lost.
Lunch is coming. I like the off centre composition of the birds and the ripple work well. Maybe look at cropping off some of the bottom and much of the top as these two areas dont really add to the image and the ripples would lead you into the birds.
Split Wood. Interesting movement in the image, I found the top right a bit too bright and it draws my eyes away from the colourful log. Maybe crop some of the left hand side off.
Tied Up. The composition of this is good and the rope creates a nice lead in line. The mono tone adds to the image. The shallow depth of field is great and it is very sharp. I find is a nice simple image and Im sure it would look great up on a wall nice and large.
Tulips. The colours in this are great, I really like the curve from the forground which leads you right into the image. There is nothing you could do to add to this image, it all works together.
At the Airshow. Well caught image, There is not a lot in front of the planes but I feel that it works with the trailing smoke which balances the image. Maybe crop some of the bottom off and lighten the shadow areas of the planes so we can see more detail in them.
Chasing Hay. I feel there is something missing in this image, a bit more action or if possible wait until the three cows are further away from the back ones as they do distract me from the ones in the front
Dispute. I hope you took lots of photos here as it looks like a major dispute going on and lots of action. It is a shame that the flying birds head can not be seen and may be clone out the one on the right unless you have a shot with all of that bird in it as well. With all the action going on it is well exposed and sharp and the background is not distracting.
Equestrian. You have caught the horse and rider very well, great exposure and very sharp. Maybe crop a little off the left so it is not right in the centre. Looks like the horse has closed its eyes as it was going over.
Flying in formation. You have caught the angle really well, It would have been good to see a bit more punch in the colour of the planes and I dont think it is as sharp as it could be
Point of Balance. This is well caught in the middle of the wave, pity we dont see a bit more of his head, and something you cant ask him to go back and do. It shows the power of the wave and you get the feeling he is struggling to get through. The white is a bit bright and could have been toned down slightly. The position in the frame is also good.
Striding out. I like how have positioned the bird in the frame, and the action of it stepping out into the water. I find the soft shadow on the body distracting and even a little more punch might help. But for B grade a great Image
The Racer. You have frozen the action for the set subject but the dust and water spray show that he is moving at speed which I like. The composition works well.
Morning Cloud. I get a calm feeling from the image, the low cloud adds to the feeling. The crop works well, and the trees very low in the frame adds to it. The white cloud could be toned down a touch as your eyes do go to it as it is the brightest part of the image
Beach Babe. She looks like she is enjoying the beach, you have caught her in mid stride which shows some action. The position in the frame works, but feel it is lacking some punch to it
Giant Petrel. Like how you have captured the Petrel. The bird is slightly to the right, but it is countered but the main splash behind the bird. When I look close I can see a slight blueish line around the back of the wings (when zoomed in) this could be removed in Lightroom
Going for it. I like the action in the image, the composition is great and the splash of water adds to the action of the old car and I like you can see the surrounding area to put in to the environment
Hovering in the breeze. An interesting angle you have given us with the bird and the title works with it. It would have been good to see what the bird is looking at as this would have added something interesting to it and maybe a bit more room on the right.
Into a Glass. This is quite different and using the blue and red it really stands out. The Ice cubes at the bottom are a little distracting so be interesting to see the image without them. The glass and the one water drop are brilliant. I can see many close up abstract images in this as well. The colours are very bold but I do like it.
Pop. Well caught and the action is frozen in time. I would have liked to have seen it cropped in a lot tighter and this could have more of an impact. It would have been good to see the shapes and bubbles in the water.
Relentless Surge. I feel you have shown us too much of the image and my eyes do look around the image. If you could have got in closer to the crashing wave on the left hand side it would have been more dramatic. The shadow across the bottom left is also distracting.
Scottish Lassie. I am not a fan of the colour with the Black and White images, but here I feel it works as it pulls the young lady away from the back ground with is very busy. You have caught the action at the right time., it is a shame that there is a construction site behind the two men.
Snares Crested Penguin. I like this as you have caught the Penguin the moment it starts to dive into the water. It is sharp. The small part of the rock it is on helps lead your eyes to it, and the lines of seaweed also help keep your eyes on the Penguin. The composition is great
Tunnel Vision. I did struggle with this image as a set subject and I feel it is a long exposure and not freezing the moment in time. There is a lot of blur which is good and like the idea but to me it does not suit the set subject, Sorry
Wave Patterns. This image has some good lines leading you into the image from the bottom and around to the top, each wave is different and the tone of it is great. To me the bright sand area in the centre is to distracting as it is the brightest part of the image. Not sure if you could crop some of it out would help.
All remains. This has a good composition with the rocks, the posts then the boat which leads to the bird. But feel you have shown us too much of it. Maybe zooming into the boat more and leave out the bottom part and the bird would be more of a focal point.
Beauty. This is an unusual angle for a portrait type image, I like how it is different. The line of her cheek and eye lid is a simple type of image and the out of focus hair helps hold your eye on here. The bottom left is quite bright as well and it competes with her and without it you focus on her piecing and eye lid.
Foggy Morning. This is a very moody image, and I almost can feel the cold morning. It is simple but it works so well. The few ripples on the water help break that area up and the reflection of the boats really add to the image.
I love my Daddy. An image Dad would be so proud to have, seeing the bond between the two is great. I did wonder if you could have moved a little to the left to see more of the childs face and it could show more emotion on him. The shallow Depth of field helps make them stand out.
Mountain Grass. A lovely soft cold feeling image, I like the detail and the layers through the image giving it some depth. The grasses also help give it some depth, lovely tones in the snow as well.
Mucky but Happy. Great expression on the little boys face, gives me the feeling that they have been having a lot of fun. Great time in life for dad and son playing and getting mucky. The background is out of focus which is good. Do find the light area on the left a little distracting. It really tells a great story of these two
Natural Forms. The flowers and the naked lady are great images but I am not sure if they work together, I am struggling to work out what the relationship between the two is and why she has the broom in the air. Maybe if she was holding flowers to match the foreground flowers it would work. The post work is good
Play of Light and shades. This has some nice tones in the black and white and nice lines in the landscape. I tend to look at the sky and clouds as they contain the brightest area, maybe crop half the hills out and concentrate on the movement in the clouds. The trees seem to be very dark and have no detail in them
Ripples. This could be a good image to have on the wall large, each time I looked at it I was drawn to different areas, the patterns and shadows on the sand then merging into the water and then to the reflections all seem to balance for me. I really like it.
The Old Pumphouse. The vertical format works well with the vertical trees, the mood you have created is great, it is a soft feeling to it. The lines at the waters edge help lead you into the building which is a good focal point.
Wood Pidgeon. A Great image of the pidgeon, it is sharp and there is a lot of detail in the feathers, a well out of focus background gives the image the depth it needs. Nice catch light in the eye and having a few rain drops show how wet it is.
Prints
Plane Fun, The position in the frame of the planes is great, and the triangle created by the smoke leading from the right to the plane on the left helps lead your eye the the planes. It is very well caught and lots of detail in the smoke with no burnout and the plain sky really makes the planes stand out
Up,up and away, A fun image of the boy and father. Something most have us have done with our kids. The expression on the boys face is great and you have caught it so we can also see the fathers face. I find the waves distracting and maybe a lower angle would remove the waves and have only the sky as a back ground?
Australasian Crested Grebe, A good nature image of these birds. Good action and you have frozen them and the water drops well. I do find the reeds hide them a lot and is distracting. But as a nature image it is good but in the set subject I would have removed the reed sticking out of the left hand bird
Contest, This is a busy image and it took awhile before I realised that it is the same person. The post work is very well done and only a couple of little places where I could see it was photo shopped. The amount of arms in the air is what I found too busy and the 3 balls. If one was used or one different to the others it could have created a focal point, but I found my eyes wonder around the image. Plus the white on the left and right pulls your eyes out of the image.
Jump, I really like this Image, its very well caught with great lighting. She is in the centre of the frame but her pose suits it and as her legs are slightly different in angle breaks the central fell to it, as well as her costume. Red on one arm and nothing on the other. Its a great Image
Rapidon on Broadway, A well caught action shot, the panning is well done. I found the area at the top distracting as it is white and maybe could have toned this down or cropped it out. Plus there is burnout on her back leg which once I saw it I kept looking at it, maybe lighten her face up a bit more as it is in shade. I do like the portrait format and her position in the frame.
Wild Seas, This images shows the power of nature. I can almost hear the sound of the wave smashing into the rock. The composition is great. There is a lot of detail in the spray as well as in the dark rock. The white spray and the dark rock balance each other out. There is nothing you could add or take out to make this better.
Auntsfield Entrance, I like the composition in this, the angle of the barrels and then the angle of the vines in the back ground. We can see enough of the environment to see what and where you are at a winery. There is nice light on the face of the barrels. I did wonder if it would be stronger in black and white, and maybe crop some of the sky out as it is not adding anything into the image.
Well Read, The iamge grew on me as when I first saw this it was close and I wasnt too sure, but when I stepped back from it, it really stood out. And it gave me me of a story and wanting to know more about the books, location and how they ended up there. The way it has been presented also works with the subject
