The 16th December MCC field trip to Rainbow Skifield was attended by 25 enthusiasts, who enjoyed brilliant weather, great company, innumerable photo opportunities and juicy Marlborough cherries.  Participants scattered in all directions from the skifield carpark, some exploring the tarns and alpine herb fields, others revelling in the many plant species and small waterfalls of the nearby creeks.  Some wandered further afield to explore the rocks and screes of the upper field, with enticing views to adjacent basins and down the other side of the St Arnaud range to Lake Rotoiti.

The trip had been promoted with alpine plants in mind, and there was a wide range flowering, but there were also landscapes, skifield structures and fellow photographers to catch the camera’s eye.
